Himba
So many wonderful things happened on our safaris in Namibia not least of which
was coming into contact with the Himba tribes people in the austere and arid
region of Kaokoland. The Himba have hardly any other form of art other
than the one they create on their own bodies. Women are noted for their
beauty, intricate hairstyles and intriguing array of body ornaments. Their
most striking feature is the ointment of red ochre mixed with butterfat covering
the entire body. So far I have worked on over sixty of these paintings and I am
in the process of finding a publisher to make them into a book.
